SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

The Symphonix OPL editor is compatible with, and has been tested on, the following sound cards:

- AdLib Music Synthesizer (OPL-2 Mode Only)
- AdLib Gold Music Synthesizer
- SoundBlaster Audio Card (OPL-2 Mode Only)
- SoundBlaster Pro Audio Card
- SoundBlaster 16 Audio Card
- Pro Audio Spectrum
- Pro Audio 16
- Microsoft Sound System

In addition to one of the sound cards listed above an optional MIDI keyboard may be connected through any standard MIDI port.

Some early Pro Audio cards contained two Yamaha OPL-2 chips instead of one Yamaha OPL-3 chip.  Pro Audio cards with this configuration will not be able to utilize OPL-3 mode.
Attention Advanced Gravis Ultrasound Users! The GUS sound card does not contain FM Synthesis chips.  Instead it utilizes emulation techniques to simulate FM based sound cards. This emulation only runs under DOS and is disabled whenever Windows is run.  Since this program manipulates the FM chip directly it is not compatible with the GUS sound card.

OVERVIEW

The Symphonix OPL Editor/Librarian is a powerful editing and storage tool for the OPL-2 and OPL-3 FM sound chip found on most all FM sound cards for the PC.  It lets you create, modify, and save your own FM patches as individual instruments or you may combine any number of patches to form instrument banks. The editor also allows complete control over all of the FM parameters as well as some enhanced editing capabilities exclusive to the Symphonix editor.
